Cummins Gets IMO Certification For QSK60

Cummins Inc. has received a statement of compliance from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certifying that the new QSK60 HPI auxiliary engine to IMO Tier II emissions standards. The 60 L, V-16 engine joins the company’s lineup of IMO Tier II compliant propulsion and auxiliary engines from 104 up to 2547 hp (78 to 1925 kW).

New QSK60 incorporates the Cummins High Pressure Injection (HPI) electronic fuel system with the same lubrication, cooling, air handling and exhaust systems as the IMO Tier I product. Further, the engine shares similar hardware with its predecessor including engine mounts, vessel connections and optional equipment, simplifying vessel installation and repowers, Cummins said. While hardware and technology remain unchanged, a minor calibration change allowed for emissions reduction without significantly impacting fuel consumption, the company added.

Two ratings will be available for auxiliary and generating set applications -?2095 hp (1563 kW) at 1500 rpm and 2547 hp (1900 kW) at 1800 rpm - making the engines suitable for diesel electric vessels, Cummins said. Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year at the company’s Daventry Engine Plant in England.
